Judy’s body of work focuses on the simplicity and splendor of Maine’s native flora and fauna and the landscapes they occupy. From a distance, these works read as paintings or drawings. Upon closer inspection, one can see the texture and tactile quality created by the combination of colors, patterns, layering, and stitching. Overlaying the collage with tulle and freehand stitching creates cohesion between each individually-placed subject.

Judy Gates is a textile artist who expresses her creativity using multiple media. Her primary medium is collage, through which she replicates natural elements using layers of fabrics. Her subjects are largely found in Maine, which Judy has called home for the last 25 years.
