My flora collages were initially inspired by the watercolor paintings of Kate Furbish, who traveled the full extent of Maine in the later years of the nineteenth and early years of the twentieth centuries. She used her brushes and paints to document plant species, creating one of the most extensive catalogues of the state’s native flora. As a plant scientist , avid gardener and artist, my collages extend to flowers and plants found in gardens and flower beds. They are the perfect match for the fabrics that speak to me.
