These flora fabric collages were in large part inspired by the watercolor paintings of Kate Furbish, who traveled the full extent of Maine in the later years of the nineteenth and early years of the twentieth centuries. She used her brushes and paints to document plant species, creating one of the most extensive catalogues of the state’s native flora. As a plant scientist and artist myself, I find these paintings to be the perfect match for the fabrics that speak to me.
